The Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to humanitarian service with the successful implementation of a Childhood Cancer Project aimed at bringing hope and relief to vulnerable children and their families.

The intervention, which took place on February 12, 2026, followed a week-long fundraising campaign organised to support 11-year-old Grace David, a paediatric patient diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. The young patient urgently required radiotherapy as part of her treatment, with the total cost estimated at ?1,800,000.

At the conclusion of the campaign, the Club raised and presented a cheque of ?1,500,000 (One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only) to assist in covering the cost of the treatment.

The cheque presentation was led by the District Governor, Lion Elder Ezekiel Umoh, who also featured prominently in the cash presentation and commended members of the club for their compassion and dedication to saving lives. He further assured that additional donations received would be forwarded to help offset the outstanding balance.

Beyond the support given to Grace David, the project also extended assistance to other paediatric cancer patients currently undergoing treatment. Essential provisions were distributed to help cushion the burden of their medical care, while sanitary materials were donated to the Oncology Centre to promote hygiene and improve patient welfare.

Speaking during the outreach, Club members reaffirmed their dedication to initiatives that promote access to healthcare, support vulnerable groups, and strengthen community-based humanitarian services in line with the vision of Lions Clubs International.
